Danish quality tequila & mezcal webshop. Tequila.dk publishes for the third consecutive year the awards for “Tequila of the Year 2017 – Denmark” and “Mezcal of the Year 2017 – Denmark”
The Danish market for quality tequila and mescal is still small, albeit growing. The amount of brands is big enough though, to make exploring the many nice bottles a good experience. The market has developed considerably over the last 4-5 years and even in 2017 we have seen a good amount of great tequilas and mescals appearing on the Danish market like Alebrijes Tequila and Ánimas Mezcal to the joy of the agave lovers.
Tequila of the Year 2017 – Denmark is “Tequila 29”
Tequila 29 is a 100% Agave tequila from Casa Xplendor. It is not a classical tequila in the sense that the aim has been to reach out to a slightly broader audience. With its slim, modern and somewhat feminine design, and silky smooth taste it goes for a younger class of agave enthusiasts and also takes aim at women drinkers. Tequila 29 comes in Blanco, Reposado, Extra Anejo and in a beautiful Rose. There are many tequila brands which are more expensive than Tequila 29, but when Tequila.dk gives awards Tequila 29 it is because it’s a product which combines good quality with a broad public appeal and innovation.

Mezcal of the Year 2017 – Denmark is Scorpion Mezcal
Scorpion Mezcal is made by the small Oaxaca based company, Caballeros. It comes in Silver, Reposado and Anejo. It derives its name from the small – real – scorpion shell resting comfily on the bottom of each bottle. The shell has ofcourse been deprived of its stinger and is completely harmless. Scorpion Mezcal is small batch and each bottle comes with a batchnumber and a bottle number.
What is Scorpion Mezcal?
Scorpion Mezcal is a succes story in Denmark. Even though the bottle comes with a small colourful sombrero on the neck which may look a little too merry and colorful in a country famed for its preference for cool and simplistic design, the danes have taken in Scorpion Mezcal. With its smokey and fruity taste it has appeals broadly to a wide audience who would otherwise have wrinkled its nose at all that Mexican merriment.
The founder of Scorpion Mezcal, Douglas French lives and works in Oaxaca in souther Mexcio from where most mezcal comes. He is a multitalented and passionate man who makes a tremdous effort to bring old plant varieties back to life. Lately he has invested a lot of time and effort in bringing back the small red oaxacan corn with an intention of making whisky.
TequilaList.com has just recently published an interview with Douglas French of Caballeros, which may be read here: https://tequilalist.com/scorpion-mezcal.html
